Where Can You Tow Your Broken Down Car or Truck To?

Automotive Blog

When your car or truck breaks down, and it will someday, the first thing you need to do is to take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety. Next is to have it towed. Where do you start and where do you take it?

You have Road Assistance Cover

The first stop is your insurance coverage. Does it include road assistance? If so, you will call your insurer who will send you a tow truck to tow away your car.

You Do Not Have Road Assistance Cover

Call an auto or truck towing company. A towing company will typically charge a hook-up fee and mileage.

If you do not have the money, you can call a friend to tow you. Here, you need to know that towing a vehicle is a delicate operation that requires some level of expertise on the part of both drivers.

Where to Take your Car

You have the option of taking your car to an auto shop, your home, or a paid parking garage. Your choice will depend on a number of factors.

Distance

Towing companies will typically charge you based on mileage: The distance between the place of breakdown and the place you want your car towed to.

Even with road assistance cover, there is still a cap on how far your car will be towed. It will cost you less to take your car to the nearest place.

The Nature of the Problem

If you are having your truck towed due to a mechanical breakdown, it makes sense to take it to an auto shop for truck repair. If you tow it to your house, you may still need to tow it to the auto shop. And that will cost you extra.

However, if it's a problem as simple as a flat tire, or a dead battery, something you can fix yourself, you can tow it to your home, if it is closer than the auto shop.

Time of Day/Night

What time is it? If your breakdown occurs in the dead of night, does it make sense to call a friend to tow you? It might not be very safe. In such a case, you'll want to take the vehicle to the nearest safe place, even if that means a paid parking garage.

When your car breaks down, you have the option of towing it to an auto shop, paid parking, or your home. Where to take your car will depend on a number of factors such as distance, time and the nature of the problem.

Auto Body Introduction: Tips For Doing The Basics

When I got into an accident with a friend's car, I learned how to do body work pretty quickly. I wanted to help him fix the damage without costing him a fortune, so we did all of the body patching ourselves. From the grinding and cutting to the welding and body filler, I decided to put all of the things I learned into this blog to teach others the same. I hope that the pages here provide you with all of the information that you need for your next auto body project whether it's a restoration or repairs after an accident.
