Have A Burst Water Line In Your RV? How To Fix It

Automotive Blog

One of the worst types of damage that your RV can sustain is water damage. Water damage is sneaky – if you don't take care of it right away, it can quickly lead to mold and mildew developing, which creates its own host of problems. If you have a water line that bursts inside of your RV while you are on the road this summer, you are going to want to act quickly to fix the situation.

#1 Find Where The Line Burst At

To start with, you need to figure out where the water line is damaged. To do this, you are going to want to start where you see the water pooling on the ground and locate the nearest water line from that point. Keep in mind that water lines are usually located against the walls of your RV.  You can generally remove the panels on the side of your RV to get to the water line. The leak should be near where the water is pooling inside of your RV.

#2 Clean Up The Water

Next, you are going to want to clean up the water that is pooling on the floor. Use some extra towels or a mop to clean up the pooling water. To keep more water from pooling up, put a bucket under the water line where it is damaged while you deal with the water that has accumulated inside of your RV. Use fans to help dry out the area; this will prevent mold and mildew from growing inside of your RV from the water.

#3 Cut The Water Line

After you cleaned up the water, you are going to need to address the damage in the line. Use a pair of cutting shears to make a clean cut on the water line. You are going to want to cut the water line on either side of where the line burst. This will provide you with a clean cut to work with while removing the damaged area at the same time. You don't want to cut more than necessary, but you want to make sure that you have two clear cuts on the line.

#4 Fit Together The Two Ends

Now you need to fix the break in the line. To fix the break in the line you are going to need to join the two sides together with a fitting.

You can use a pipe thread fitting to connect the broken water line together. To do this, you are going to need to take some Teflon tape and take the threaded end of the pipe thread fitting and cover it up with Teflon tape. Then, attached the pipe thread fitting to both ends of the water line and press the line together.

Next, you can also use a compression union fitting. You are going to need to purchase two different compression union fittings, the male and female side. Attach the male side to one side of the broken water line and the female side to the other end of the broken water line. Then, press the two ends of the compression union fitting together.

The water line should now be fixed. Put an empty bucket under the water line to ensure that it doesn't leak any more water and is really fixed. Contact a company like Apex Transportation for more information and assistance.

Auto Body Introduction: Tips For Doing The Basics

When I got into an accident with a friend's car, I learned how to do body work pretty quickly. I wanted to help him fix the damage without costing him a fortune, so we did all of the body patching ourselves. From the grinding and cutting to the welding and body filler, I decided to put all of the things I learned into this blog to teach others the same. I hope that the pages here provide you with all of the information that you need for your next auto body project whether it's a restoration or repairs after an accident.
